Putting Practice from Jon Adler, Golf Coach Dorset

If you find  yourself dwelling over the ball on your putts, a little tentative about pulling the trigger then give this exercise a go.

Set up to the ball, line yourself up, and then begin to count backwards from 50 to 1. So once you have lined up your ball, start counting, 50, 49, 48 and so on. This will give your mind something to focus on while your body plays the stroke. It will hopefully stop you doubting your stroke as you make it.

Give it a go with an open mind and find out for yourself. What do you notice?

Allow yourself a few hours to get used to this. We turn away from somethng that feels different far too quickly. Don’t expect results. Just see if it’s possible for your mind to count and your body to putt.

Colin Montgomerie used this when he felt really nervous, like in the Ryder Cup.
